Is sustainability dead in the age of AI?

Sustainability isn’t dying. What’s dying is treating it as a PR badge or a price-markup tool.

sua.SUA / PerspectivesIs sustainability dead in the age of AI?

Budgets are moving to AI, customers won’t pay a green premium and demand is stagnant. Stopping the sustainability agenda now is a dangerous strategic misstep.

Focus on margin, not markups: waste reduction, material optimization, better planning and energy savings. Treat AI as an accelerator, not a rival. Drop vague slogans and talk about durability, running costs and total cost of ownership. And remember that short-term cuts become long-term barriers: pausing compliance saves cash this quarter but risks your license to operate in core markets tomorrow.

Treated as a CSR project, sustainability will always be the first budget cut in a downturn. Embedded as a core design principle, it becomes a driver of operational resilience.
